Meet Navya. She believes Corning gives everyone multiple opportunities to exhibit their capabilities regardless of gender, caste, creed, or race.
Navya started her journey with Corning in 2018 as an administrator, designing internal portals for businesses built on internal web platforms. A year later, she took on an additional role as a compliance administrator, managing compliance-related activities worldwide for Corning’s Global Supply Management function.
Before joining Corning, Navya worked with a couple of multi-national companies, Navya took a sabbatical after her wedding. Being from the southern part of India and getting married into a family based in the northern part of India, Navya took time off to spend quality time with family and understand the different culture she had joined.
“I was worried that it might be difficult for me to find a job after a break,” Navya said. “Corning proved that my apprehensions were misplaced. Corning only looked at my skill set when I interviewed and understood the reason for my sabbatical very well.”
The best part about Corning, according to Navya, is the culture.
“Initially I was nervous and not sure how the work culture would be,” she said. “All my concerns vanished in a few days as everyone was very warm and helpful.”
Navya is a strong supporter of Corning’s employee resource groups, which encourage diversity. She believes these platforms offer an opportunity to develop and express oneself freely while supporting and empowering each other.
For Navya, mentoring is one important element of that support.
“My functional manager is based in the U.S., and she empowers me to make decisions in every situation,” Navya said. “She does not confine me to a fixed set of duties and encourages me to take up more challenging tasks, which will add value to Corning.”
And Navya has found that stepping up, participating in groups at the company, and challenging herself to grow as an individual and a team collaborator has paid off.
“My proudest moment was when the Corning Professional Women’s Forum, an employee resource group which is focused on championing an environment in which women achieve their full potential, recognized me for being a part of the winning team from Global Supply Management. It was an award for excellence in data privacy. It made me believe that good work is noticed and appreciated.” said Navya.
