As fiber continues to connect millions of homes to the endless possibilities of highspeed broadband, Corning’s Thin-Film Bundled Drop™ solution is helping accelerate and improve the deployment of FTTH networks in rural and urban communities around the world.
In combination with the fast and minimally invasive method of nano-trenching, the Thin-Film Bundled Drop solution reduces the need for traditional deployment methods.
This solution will also help limit disruption within communities, ease the procurement of permits, and speed up the roll out of FTTH in the months and years to come.

Understanding the Thin-Film Bundled Drop™
-
What is the Thin-Film Bundled Drop™ solution?
Based on decades of indoor and outdoor cabling innovation, the Thin-Film Bundled Drop is a cable assembly containing seven <5 mm drop cables with 4 to 12 fibres each, that can be easily be guided and spliced at the customers home and that are originally bundled under a layer of thin film.
-
How is the Thin-Film Bundled Drop™ enabling faster FTTH deployments?
The slim profile of the Thin-Film Bundled Drop helps speed up the rollout of FTTP networks by enabling direct-buried installation and nano-trenching – no junction closings or splicing required. It eliminates the need for traditional ducts, fibre blowing, and more invasive deployment methods while reducing the deployment crew size and the need for skilled labour.
-
Why should you consider the Thin-Film Bundled Drop™ for your network?
For FTTH networks, the Thin-Film Bundled Drop solution yields a 21% faster deployment time than traditional blown installation and reduces the total cost of network ownership by 24% compared to traditional duct installation.
-
What applications are best suited for the Thin-Film Bundled Drop™?
The Thin-Film Bundled Drop is an ideal option for quickly deploying incremental subscriber connections in densely populated areas. The cables can directly be buried into stone-free soil or installed in combination with trenching, significantly reducing time and installation costs compared to traditional construction methods. Visit our Fibre to the Premise Support page to learn more about our FTTP and FTTH network solutions.
-
How do I install Thin-Film Bundled Drop™ Cables correctly?
In our standard recommended procedures, you will find necessary information for the proper installation of thin-film bundled drop cables.
-
Is a repair concept for Thin-Film Bundled Drop™ Cables existing?
Yes. If the TFBD cable bundle is destroyed for example by civil construction work on the longitudinal route or at the customer drop section, first the point of failure should be determined and then the repair work can be carried out in accordance with our repair recommendation made in the document. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our application engineers who will be happy to support you.
-
When will networks start deploying the Thin-Film Bundled Drop™ solution?
Field-tested and proven, the Thin-Film Bundled Drop is being deployed around the world today. It’s compliant with architectural standards and compatible with the most prevalent FTTH network types.
