Dr. Andrea Adamo

CEO and founder, Zaiput Flow Technologies

Dr. Andrea Adamo, CEO and founder of Zaiput Flow Technologies, is an engineer and entrepreneur with extensive experience in the development of innovative solutions in the context of fluid flows. Dr. Adamo holds a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Palermo, Italy and a Ph.D. in Fluid Mechanics from the University Federico II of Naples, Italy in addition to a Master of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was also awarded the Fulbright Scholarship. After completing his graduate studies, Dr. Adamo joined the laboratory of Prof. Klavs Jensen, first as Postdoctoral Associate and then as a Research Associate. In the Jensen group he worked on different applications of microfluidics, microchemistry and flow chemistry. He had a key design role in the context of the Pharmacy on Demand and Molecules on Demand projects sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Dr. Adamo developed the technology at the core of Zaiput, he currently serves as the Innovation Advisor at Snapdragon Chemistry.

Joshua P. Barham

Sofja Kovalevskaja Group Leader, University of Regensburg, Germany

Joshua P. Barham is a Sofja Kovalevskaja Group Leader at the University of Regensburg, Germany. He received his industry-based PhD in 2017 under the supervision of Prof. John Murphy at the University of Strathclyde and GlaxoSmithKline, UK. Based primarily within GSK’s Global API Chemistry department, he specialized in photoredox catalysis, radical chemistry, flow chemistry, and mechanisms of electron transfer reactions; work that was recognized by the 2017 Reaxys PhD Prize.
He pursued postdoctoral studies in Japan first as a New Energy and Industrial Technology Development (NEDO) Japan Trust fellow and second as a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) fellow. There, he specialized in microwave-assisted flow chemistry at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and the University of Shizuoka under the guidance of Prof. Yasuo Norikane and Prof. Yoshitaka Hamashima. As a spokesperson for flow reactor manufacturer SAIDA FDS Inc., Joshua presented the benefits of flow chemistry to pharmaceutical industry representatives at multiple pharmaceutical technology EXPOs in Osaka and Toyko (4th Interphex Pharma Exhibition 2018; in-PHARMA JAPAN 2018; P-MEC 2019). Since 2019, his independent research group in Regensburg has investigated emerging synthetic technologies such as photo-, electro, and photoelectrochemistry for constructions and post-modifications of pharmaceutical cores, using continuous flow as an enabling platform toward scalable applications.

Jacopo Buzzanca

Custom Synthesis Manager, Angelini Pharma S.p.A.

Jacopo Buzzanca brings 8+ years’ experience in API process chemistry R&D within pharmaceutical industry and CDMOs arena. With tasked to design and develop scalable synthetic routes, he actively contributed to clinical advancement of tens of novel drug candidates endowed with biological activity in a wide variety of therapeutic target areas. In the role of drug substance development expert, he is currently responsible of CDMO business unit of Angelini Pharma S.p.A., taking accountability of business development and project portfolio management with the remit to coordinate chemical development and technology transfer in/out programs of new Angelini’s in-licensing and custom APIs / HPAPIs.

Dr. Julien Freudenreich

Research Scientist, Oril Industrie

Dr. Julien Freudenreich is currently Research Scientist in Flow Chemistry at the chemical innovative technologies department from ORIL (Servier). After graduating with a Master of Engineering specialized in organic chemistry at the University of Strasbourg (ECPM), he completed his studies in 2012 with a PhD in Organometallic Chemistry in the group of Prof. Georg Süss-Fink from the University of Neuchâtel (Switzerland). Then, since 2013, he worked as PostDoctoral Research Assistant in synthetic organic chemistry in the group of Prof. David R. Spring at the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom) before to join Servier in 2018. As Research Scientist at Servier, he is in charge to develop flow processes for the synthesis of APIs and pharmaceutical intermediates. These flow processes are from small scale synthesis up to pilot plant manufacturing.

Dr. Guillaume Gauron

EMEA Technical Sales Manager, Corning Reactor Technologies

After earning his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Orsay University Paris XI in 2007, Guillaume worked as an R&D chemist at Cis Bio from 2008 to 2014 before joining Corning Reactor Technologies as an application engineer. In 2018, Guillaume accepted the role of EMEA Technical Sales Manager.

Dr. Dirk Hütten

Senior Director Business Development, Raybow PharmaScience

Dr. Dirk Hütten holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Cologne, Germany. He has more than 20 years of experience in global sales and marketing alongside the supply chain of pharmaceuticals and APIs including positions at GSK, Altana and PharmaZell. In 2019, he joined Raybow PharmaScience as Senior Director Business Development. In addition, Dirk is passionate about high performance sailing.

Dr. Yi Jiang

President & General Manager, Corning® Advanced Flow™ Reactor Technology Co., Ltd.

Dr. Yi Jiang has been responsible for emerging innovation programs and business development as Corning innovation officer in Greater China, also the President & General Manager of Corning® Advanced-Flow™ Reactor business globally. Yi was formerly the manager of global reactor & application engineering at Corning European Technology Center in France, the project manager & research manager at Corning Corporate Research in USA. Before joining Corning, Yi has worked in chemical & petrochemical industries (Sinopec, DuPont US, and ConocoPhillips US) for industrial novel reactor designs and process development.

Yi earned his PhD in chemical engineering from CREL at Washington University in St. Louis.

Sara Mattiello

Senior Post-Doc Researcher, UNIMIB

Sara Mattiello graduated in Materials Science at the University of Milano-Bicocca in 2014. She obtained the PhD from the same University in 2018 working under the supervision of Prof. Luca Beverina. She is now a senior post doc in Prof. Beverina group. Her research interests include micellar chemistry and photochemistry, formulation chemistry, and their application to organic materials for printed electronics.

Dr. Jean-Christophe M. Monbaliu

Associate Professor, University of Liège

Dr. Jean-Christophe M. Monbaliu is currently Associate Professor at the University of Liège (Belgium) and serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Flow Chemistry. He is heading the Center for Integrated Technology and Organic Synthesis (CiTOS, www.citos.uliege.be), the first European Corning® Advanced-Flow™ Reactor qualified lab. His research interests revolve around synthetic organic chemistry but are multidisciplinary in essence. They aim at (a) designing cheaper and more efficient routes for the preparation of high value-added chemicals such as active pharmaceutical ingredients, (b) accelerating the transition from petrobased to biobased strategies and (c) developing efficient processes with a lower environmental impact.

Trevor Murray

Sales Engineering Director, Zaiput Flow Technologies

Trevor Murray is the Sales Engineering Director at Zaiput Flow Technologies, an MIT spinout, that is leading innovation in flow chemistry and continuous processing – two up and coming trends in the pharmaceutical industry. Trevor joined Zaiput as an application engineer in 2018 and has since led Zaiput’s sales and business development efforts. He works with scientists and engineers from many of the top pharmaceutical companies around the world to help them implement continuous separation technology to enable new chemistries and improve their current processes. Trevor graduated from Northeastern University in 2018 with a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering. While a student, Trevor held positions at multiple biotech companies, focusing on novel drug delivery, process design and optimization.

Dr. Ancuta Musina

Application Engineer, Corning Reactor Technologies

After graduating with her masters in Chemical Engineering from the University Politehnica of Bucharest in 2012, Anca worked as an R&D Engineer in the development of new processes using chelating resins. In 2014, she started her PhD in parallel and graduated in 2019. In 2018, Anca joined Corning as an Application Engineer for the Corning® Advanced-Flow™ Reactors business.

Irene Prat

Thermal Analysis and Calorimetric studies at Medichem.

Irene Prat graduated from the University of Girona (Spain) with a degree in chemistry. She received her Ph.D. in 2013. She joined Medichem and took responsibility for Kilo Lab department, performing the optimization of industrial processes and dealing with scale-up issues. In 2017, she was promoted to an R&D position as responsible for Thermal analysis and Calorimetry, where she led the process safety studies of all manufactured products. Currently, Irene is leading the introduction of new technologies including flow chemistry, which, today, is used to develop new processes and to optimize the existing ones.

Dr. Philippe Roth

Application Engineer, Corning Reactor Technologies

After graduating with a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Oxford University in 2014, Philippe worked as an R&D scientist in agrochemistry and then as an analytic chemist in pharmaceutical companies before joining Corning® Advanced-Flow™ Reactors as an Application Engineer in 2018.

Jerry Salan

Chief Executive Officer, Nalas Engineering

Jerry Salan is a chemical engineer with expertise in chemical process development in the pharmaceutical and specialty chemical industries. Jerry leads a team of chemists and chemical engineers at Nalas Engineering Services, Inc.

Manel Vázquez

Medichem´s Pilot Plant Manager, Spain

Manel Vázquez graduated from Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) with a degree in organic chemistry. He has been working for more than 25 years in the generics industry, leading different departments in Medichem, and working on projects from R&D to industrial production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). He is currently leading the Pilot Plant department, scaling up new processes and technologies. He has managed projects involving Flow technology, hydrogenations, Grignards, organometallics, and more.

Alessandra Vizza

Regional Business Director, Corning Reactor Technologies

Alessandra Vizza is the Regional Business Director for the Advanced-Flow™ Reactors business at Corning. She has been with the company for the last ten years, working first as Application Engineer ensuring technical contact with customers, being in charge of installations and applications.

She later took over a Commercial Manager role for EMEA and NSA regions. Then, she moved to her current role ensuring the business continuity for Advanced-Flow™ Reactors. She has experience in the technical application of Corning's Advanced-Flow™ Reactors as well on market strategy and business development.

Over the course of her career in flow technology, Alessandra has been co-author of several articles and provided several talks and workshops and also built collaborations with several Academic and Service companies. She is focusing her activity on the successful implementation of industrial cases.

Prior to Corning, Alessandra Vizza was working in the field of food plants as R&D engineer. She earned a masters degree in Food & Technology from Università Statale di Milano.

Dr. Jason Williams

Principal Scientist, Research Center Pharmaceutical Engineering

Jason Williams is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Center for Continuous Flow Synthesis and Processing (CC FLOW), based in Graz (Austria). He completed an undergraduate degree in Chemistry (2014) at the University of Sheffield (UK), with a year industrial experience in medicinal chemistry at AstraZeneca. This was followed by a PhD on the GlaxoSmithKline/University of Strathclyde collaborative PhD Programme, under the supervision of Prof. Billy Kerr, working on novel amidation methods enabled by new synthetic technologies such as flow and photochemistry. Since 2018, Jason has worked in the Kappe group as part of CC FLOW, where his research interests are based in the area of flow photochemistry as well as PAT and process control in flow.

Mr. Marc Winter

Senior Application Engineer, Corning Reactor Technologies

Marc Winter is an expert in the industrialization of flow processes. He works as Senior Application Engineer in Corning's Advanced-Flow™ Reactor business since 2007 and leads the Application Engineering Team. He has already conducted many successful projects helping international customers to move to continuous production. Among the most notable ones, he supported a customer in setting up a large scale nitration under cGMP conditions for a pharmaceutical production. Additionally to his every day task in assisting customers, he is coauthor of scientific articles, has submitted patents in the field of micro-reactors and flow chemistry and has presented results on scientific conferences. Before joining Corning he gathered international experience by working in small and large sized companies in industries like energy, food, automotive and pharma. Marc Winter holds an engineering degree in chemical and process engineering from the University of Applied Sciences Aachen (Germany).

Dr. Kejun Wu

Professor, Zhejiang University

Dr. Kejun Wu obtained his Bachelor degree in 2007 and PhD degree in 2012 from Zhejiang University, China, both in Chemical Engineering. He joined Zhejiang University as a ZJU100 Young Professor in 2021. Previously he worked as a Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at University of Leeds, UK. His current research interests are primarily directed at the application of microreaction technology for the synthesis and manipulation of nanomaterials.
