Meet Hareg. She’s mixing materials and bonding with science every day.
Hareg was first intrigued by science in her 10th grade chemistry class. The way her science teacher explained the subject to her helped Hareg to see the excitement of chemistry, which inspired her to study it in college.
“When I went to college, my brother advised me to join the English department and study literature,” says Hareg. “And I said, ‘No thank you’ and joined the chemistry department.”
Hareg’s passion for science led her to receive her master’s degree and Ph.D. in the field before joining Corning. Today, Hareg is working on next-generation products that can positively impact society.
“My ideas are valued here at Corning,” says Hareg. “Corning’s innovation platform gives me access to information that helps me understand how my work fits into the big picture.”
Hareg’s commitment to developing life-changing innovations led her to receive the Modern Day Technology Leader Award in 2016 at the Black Engineer of the Year Awards, acknowledging her scientific and technical contributions to the engineering, science, and technology fields.
“I am proud to be one of Corning’s women innovators and to have been recognized with this prestigious award,” says Hareg.
We’re proud of our female scientists, engineers, and working professionals like Hareg and know they are shaping a brighter, clearer future.
