Grand opening of a new building at Corning SAS's Bagneaux sur Loing Plant (France)
In April 2022, Corning SAS officially announced the acquisition of Saint-Gobain Sovis. This company, which included optics and radiation protection activities, was spread over 2 separate sites, one in France in the community of Jouarre (Seine et Marne), the other in the United States, in the town of Kent, in the state of Washington.
To optimize its industrial operations, Corning has decided to repatriate activities from the Jouarre site to its historic site at Bagneaux sur Loing (Seine et Marne). This has now been achieved, with the inauguration on April 9 of a new 750 square meter building housing the cutting, polishing and assembly operations for glass blocks used in the production of protective windows for the nuclear industry.
For Corning SAS, this new investment of around 2 million euros at its historic site in Seine et Marne will enable it to expand its range of radiation protection products. Opening up new market opportunities both in Europe and internationally, these windows will be sold worldwide to ensure the safety of operators handling radioactive elements, whether in the nuclear field, medical shielding or radioactive isotopes used in nuclear medicine.
"Corning is a world leader in radiation protection glass and optical solutions. This strategic addition to our portfolio will strengthen our innovation capabilities and open up new market opportunities," says Pierre Jean Baron, GM of Corning SAS. "The synergies generated by this acquisition will enable us to provide safe, reliable and advanced solutions to our customers worldwide."
