New Innovation
For nearly 30 years, installers have been using the same techniques to access outside plant cables:
Did you know there’s a better way? Our FastAccess® technology — an innovative cable jacket design used to bind cable construction through the manufacturing process — will forever change the way you end-span access an outside plant cable.
Corning's patented binderless* FastAccess technology refers to the combination of a Corning FastAccess technology jacket with an innovative technology used to bind cable construction through the manufacturing process, eliminating the use of binder yarns and waterblocking tapes.
Best of all, this technology allows the installer to effectively peel the cable jacket away without the use of sharp tools, thereby reducing access time on average by 70 percent and dramatically reducing overall risk of harm to the installer or the fibers within the cable .
And there’s more. You typically need to cut binders many times to remove them from the cable, which can become a problem when the binders group together during prepping. Our design uses a thin, protective plastic sheath that comes off with the cable jacket.
ALTOS loose tube cables with binderless FastAccess™ technology—the performance, protection, and ruggedness you expect from our ALTOS cables, with additional technology to make your job easier.
Now, Corning is continuing the “Evolution of Easy” by taking this cable technology even further! We’re pleased to announce the launch of our first armored cable utilizing our FastAccess® Technology and thin film core protection, ALTOS® Lite Loose Tube Cables with FastAccess® Technology. The overall cable design is similar to the dielectric version and gives the customer many of the same benefits. The major change for our customers is that we have eliminated the use of a ripcord to access the jacket and armor. The customer can use the FastAccess feature to remove the cable jacket and then simply pull the cable through the armor to access the cable core. This is possible because of the new thin film protection around the cable core that prevents any damage as the core is pulled through the armor. The customer can then easily remove the thin film with an easy to access ripcord. By utilizing this new access process customer can reduce cable access times by up to 60% all with a less risky process that involves no sharp tools. As with the dielectric version, the water blocking tape has been removed and has been replaced with the equally effective water blocking powder.
