Corning’s biggest leap into the solar energy field came with 2015’s agreement with Duke Energy Renewables. However, individual plants are also harnessing the sun’s power with solar panels.

Corning Specialty Materials in Keene, New Hampshire, took a step to reduce energy used to heat process water. In 2016, the Global Energy Management (GEM) team installed solar panels, cutting thousands of dollars from the site’s overall energy bill. 

In addition to keeping cars cool, a new car park at Corning’s Optical Fiber plant in Pune, India, also saves energy. The horseshoe-shaped park is made from an array of solar panels, adding to the plant’s earlier-installed roof panels. With help from GEM, those two projects add about 325 kilowatts of energy to the plant’s grid, enough to power nearly 300 homes in India annually.
